We’re so proud to welcome John McDonald and Amy McCann as Doncaster Baseball Club Life Members, recognising their incredible contribution, commitment and lasting impact on our club.

🐉 John McDonald

John McDonald has been a valued member of Doncaster Baseball Club for more than 25 years, contributing thousands of hours behind the scenes in service of the club, its players and its community.

First becoming involved through his sons Brendan and Daniel, John quickly became a steady and trusted presence around the club.

Across both summer and winter seasons, he has supported the club in a wide range of roles including committee and board positions, club secretary duties, live scoring and statistics, bar operations, and helping deliver countless events and functions.

Through his journalistic background, John has also contributed to the wider game, writing articles and coverage for Baseball Australia and supporting junior state teams.

Whether running the bar alongside fellow volunteers, tracking scores in real time for supporters, or following the club’s progress while overseas, John has always remained closely connected.

His long-standing commitment and quiet consistency have made him a much-loved and respected part of the Doncaster community.

🐉 Amy McCann

Since joining the Dragons in 2002, Amy McCann has been one of the club’s most respected and influential figures, making a remarkable impact as a player, coach, committee member and leader across both the club and the international stage.

On the field, Amy has played more than 350 games for Doncaster, is a four-time Women’s Division 1 Premiership player, a three-time Club Champion, and a four-time Baseball Victoria batting champion.

Her career also reached the highest level of the game, representing Victoria for more than a decade and Australia as part of the Emeralds from 2002 to 2014. Amy is one of only five Australians to compete in six Women’s Baseball World Cups, winning silver and bronze medals and earning selection in the All-World Team twice.

Beyond her playing career, Amy has made an enormous contribution to the growth and development of the club. As a committee member, she helped build the club’s early digital presence, including its website and social media channels, while her coaching has spanned almost every level of the women’s program, from tee-ball and junior girls through to winter and senior women’s teams.

But her influence goes far beyond the diamond. More than a coach and teammate, Amy is a mentor, a role model and a friend to many across the club. She continues to show up week after week, supporting, encouraging and lifting those around her, helping shape not just better players, but better people.

Her leadership and care have left a lasting legacy that will be felt across the club for generations.
