The Doncaster Dragons’ six-game unbeaten streak came to an end as they lost consecutive away games to Blackburn and Melbourne in recent days.

On Tuesday night at Surrey Park, Melbourne’s import pitcher Brett Erwin tossed a complete seven-inning game and struck out 12 to lead his team to a 6-1 win.

In the second inning, the Dragons strung together four consecutive base hits — by Luke Utting, Aimon Dowling, Callum Lethborg and Nic Unland — to score their only run.

First baseman Billy Findlay collected Doncaster’s other two hits for the game – a pair of doubles – but was twice left stranded.

Pitching duties were shared by Marcel D’Avoine, Dowling, Derek Medlin and Brian Chen.

At Blackburn on Saturday, the teams combined for 28 hits in seven innings. Ten of Blackburn’s 16 hits came in a 10-run bottom of the fifth, effectively ending the contest despite the Dragons having recorded 11 base hits of their own to that point.

Findlay, D’Avoine, Medlin, Dowling and Brendan McDonald each had two hits, while Chen and Utting finished with one.
