A season full of highlights ended in disappointing fashion on Saturday, with the Doncaster Thirds coming up short in a 9-7 grand final loss to Forest Hill at Merri Park.

In a rematch of their semi-final a fortnight earlier, in which the Dragons erased a 10-run deficit to book their spot in the finale, the Eagles scored seven runs in the top of the last inning to claim a come-from-behind victory.

Trailing 9-5 entering their final turn at bat, the Dragons refused to go quietly. A string of hits, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Adam Marshall, cut the deficit in half and put the winning run on base before Forest Hill made a pitching change to secure the last out.

Brayden Henderson, who tossed a perfect game earlier in the season, pitched into the final inning before tiring.
