The Firsts and Reserves secured hard-fought home victories over Melbourne Uni on Saturday, while the Thirds suffered just their second loss of the season at North Coburg.
Making his first appearance on the mound this season, teen southpaw Aimon Dowling allowed three runs in the top of the first before handing the ball to John Britton. Doncaster tied things up with three runs of their own in the fourth, then added a couple more in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
Britton held the Melbourne Uni bats largely in check, allowing just one run after the first inning, before Derek Medlin closed things out with a perfect final frame to record his second consecutive save.
Earlier, Fraser Boyd tossed a complete-game shutout as the Reserves claimed a 5-0 victory. The win kept the Dragons in fourth spot, one point ahead of fifth-placed Ringwood, with the two teams set to square off in this weekend’s final round of the A-Res regular season.
The Thirds remain in top spot with a 12-2-2 record despite losing 9-1 to North Coburg at Parker Reserve, while the Fourths forfeited their matchup due to a swathe of unavailable players across all grades.
