It was a mixed bag for the Dragons on Saturday, as the A-Grade teams hosted Greenhills-Montmorency at Deep Creek while B3 and B4 squared off against Greensborough at Elder Street Reserve.

Facing GMBC for the second time this year following Doncaster’s 2023 grand final triumph, the Firsts fell behind early before losing 6-3 in eight innings.

Fraser Boyd turned in another solid performance on the mound but Monty kept the Dragons’ bats at bay for most of the day. Trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the eighth and final frame, Doncaster brought the tying run to the plate but came up short as GMBC youngster Charles Chislett escaped the jam.

The Reserves earlier claimed a hard-fought 5-3 victory, with starting pitcher John Britton and Monty counterpart Simon Fitzmaurice – who, like Chislett, plays for Doncaster over the summer – each going the distance in the eight-inning affair.

Jamie Bastian recorded a couple of hits in her return to the lineup while Lucas Banjac smacked a booming double late in the game to help secure the win.

The Thirds tasted defeat for the first time this season, falling 6-5 to a Greensborough team that dropped down from A3 during the week, while the Fourths walked away with a 12-12 draw.
