Doncaster completed their first sweep of the 2024 MWBL season on Saturday, outscoring their opponents a combined 44-11 at Napier Park.
In his first start of the season, coach Dan McGrath tossed eight shutout innings as the Firsts claimed a 3-0 win over Heathmont.
Locked at 0-0 through five innings, Heathmont starter Owen de Vries departed in the sixth with a runner on and the Dragons quickly took advantage. A one-out RBI double by Luke Utting scored the first run of the game, Brendan McDonald followed with a single to put runners at the corners, then Marcel D’Avoine lined a sac fly to centrefield to put Doncaster up 2-0.
D’Avoine’s solo home run in the top of the eighth accounted for the only other run of the game.
The Reserves also kept Heathmont off the board in a 6-0 victory, with Fraser Boyd dominant on the hill before John Britton threw a scoreless inning in his first appearance of the year.
The Thirds remained unbeaten with a 19-2 win over St Kilda. Jed Bastian cleared the cones on the second pitch of the game – his first non-inside-the-park senior home run – and Tom Ervin followed with a deep fly of his own later in the inning as the Dragons put the game beyond doubt early.
The Fourths defeated Monash Uni Blue 16-9.
