Fifty-six pitches was all it took for Winter Thirds pitcher Brayden Henderson to complete a perfect game on Saturday.
Henderson, last year’s B-Grade Thirds league MVP, faced the minimum over five innings, striking out nine in a 26-0 rout over Research at the Waverley Baseball Club.
Solid defence by third-baseman Sullivan Steele and a pair of running catches by outfielders Jed Bastian and Cam Allen gave Henderson all the defensive support he needed.
Offensively, Steele and Tom Ervin combined to go 9-for-9 on the day.
Coach Pete Ervin was thrilled with the result.
“In all my life I’ve never witnessed such a thing, but to play in it is something else,” he said.
“I’m so proud of the way the team played today and what else can be said about Brayden? Perfect!
“A few of us caught on to what was happening in the third inning but it was a silent acknowledgement; no one said a thing.
“The fielders made some great plays, which is so often the case in one of these games, and we smashed the ball with line drives all day.
“I’m still shaking my head. Perfect!”
In other results, the Firsts beat Waverley 12-5, the Reserves went down 5-2, and the Fourths lost 22-1 against GMBC.
